BOOKING A MOBILE CLUB

How much does a Mobile Club cost?
Four easy payments of $12.95!! Ok, ok… just kidding. That would be sweet though. Because GrooveBoston Mobile Clubs are custom designed for each client and venue, they range widely in price. For starters, if your school can provide certain elements of the show in-house like staging, power feeds, etc, it can usually save you a bundle of cash. Other variables include things like complexity of the design and travel expenses. Shoot us a call or an email and we can give you a quote to get the ball rolling.
Our school doesn’t have a big enough venue to hold a Mobile Club. Are we out of luck?
Not at all. We can build a Mobile Club anywhere, even if it doesn’t already have walls. Assuming you at least have an empty quad or parking lot, we’ll build a tent structure from the ground up and run power from a diesel generator. Problem solved.
We’re planning on booking a big-name artist. Is that cool?
Totally. We work with artists all the time—big name DJs, bands, pro-tour yodelers— you name it. Let us know who you’re booking and we’ll build a club around them with all the extras on their talent rider.
Can we book only your DJs without a Mobile Club?
Yes. If you’re renting out a club or other venue that’s already juiced with lighting and audio, then we’d be happy to rock it.
How far in advance should I call to book a show?
Call as early as humanly possible. Dates book up quickly for Mobile Clubs especially in the “Spring Fling” and “Back-to-School” seasons when every college in the country wants to have their big blowout party.
How far do you travel?
As far as we need to. The most distant show to date was in Dallas, TX, but we’ll travel anywhere as long as there’s a huge dance party at the end of the day.
Do you do weddings?
No. Well, that's not totally true. If you're looking to have a wedding that consists entirely of a crazy dance party, then of course. If you're looking for a guy in a sparkly vest that will know just what to say to introduce your spouse's Grandmother... ummm, no thanks.
Do you do proms?
Yep. We work a select handful of high school events every year. If your high school is ready for the biggest, wildest prom anyone has ever heard of, then let’s do it! If you can’t fit a Mobile Club into the budget, we also have a team that works on more typical-sized high school events.

PREPARING FOR THE SHOW

I know you need a lot of power. We’ve had bands in the room in the past, so we're all set, right?
Ahh. If only it were that simple! Actually, in most cases our gear uses considerably more power than other shows, and the last thing we want is to blow a fuse or breaker in the middle of an intense set. To avoid this, we keep track of the specific power needs of each piece of our equipment. For smaller shows, it’s a certain number of 20Amp circuits, typically provided on a power panel at the stage. For larger shows, we’ll ask for three-phase power with a camlock tie-in. For HUGE shows, or outdoor Mobile Clubs we’ll bring in a diesel generator and create our own power.
How long do you need to set up?
Usually our load-in and setup times range from 4 hours to a full day of work. On rare occasions we’ll actually show up the day before your show to get the Mobile Club build started. Considering we can build a club in one day that could swallow most big-city nightclubs… it’s totally worth it.
Do you need student volunteers to help?
Do you have them? Yeah. We’ll take ‘em. Any extra hands are always a big help, and could save you money by cutting down on the amount of crew we need to bring.
What’s in your talent rider? Do you need a dressing room?
We’ve seen the riders of a lot of performing acts. Some are hilariously complicated and elaborate. Check some out the web if you ever have the chance. Our rider very basic: hotel, dressing room, and maybe a few snacks—no stretch SUV limos stocked with Fiji water and blue M&Ms… unless you happen to have one laying around.

THE MOBILE CLUB EXPERIENCE

What kind of music do your DJs play?
The best way to describe a GrooveBoston set is FUN music: Hip Hop, Top 40, Dance, and anything else that rocks a party and gets people jumping off the floor. Oh, and we play a lot of Ultimate Dance Party 1997.
How long does a Mobile Club last?
One night. We don’t charge extra by the hour because most of the work is in the setup-- the show is the fun part. Typically, we recommend a 3 hour set for the best experience. Any longer and people usually start overheating from intense craziness.
Our committee is planning a hoola-hoop contest for prizes during the show. What time should we start?
Really? I mean… really? Well… if you really have to we STRONGLY suggest that you do it before the DJ set. GrooveBoston almost never gets on the mic so that the energy doesn’t get broken up. We’ve seen a lot of parties die when we slam out of a floor-shaking Cascada song and it’s time for the pie eating contest… it’s really too bad.
Do your DJs take requests?
Sure, if they can hear you over the pounding bass. The best bet is to have students log onto the grooveboston.com mini-site specifically designed for your school before the show. They can request songs on the built-in form.

OTHER STUFF

Where can I get one of those sweet GB t-shirts? How about one of the sweatbands?
They’re cool, right? Shoot us an email and maybe you’ll get lucky. Hopefully we’ll have a GB merch site launched soon. Until then, watch your heads because sometimes we launch tees into the crowd during show finales.
I could be wrong, but I think I saw the DJs doing pushups between mixes… What’s the deal with that?
Haha. Yeah. You caught us. A GB show is all about energy. We jump around a lot at the mix… a whole lot. Sometimes when one of us starts to lag he’ll get a shove and we’ll all do a ton of pushups to get pumped back up. Chugging energy drinks also helps.
Wait, so crazy parties are your JOB!?! Can I work for you?
That depends. Check out our jobs page to see if you have what it takes or shoot an email to jobs@grooveboston.com.
