It’s not just a Jersey Shore hairdo anymore.

I know, I know. You’ve barely recovered from getting your face rocked off last spring, but believe it or not, the fall tour kickoff is nearly upon us. So put your face back on, head back to the dorm, and gear up for GrooveBoston’s biggest tour yet.

We’re going to hit one school after another, taking back the term “blowout” along the way. As always, we’ve got new music, new DJs, and new gadgets to make sure that each stop is the most intense, badass, massive dance party in town.

Enjoy the last few weeks of summer, because this is going to be CRAZY.

Bobby D — GrooveBoston’s fearless leader and Operations Director — will serve on the 2010-2011 Board of Directors for ISES New England. He’ll be sworn in on June 15th as the Director of Communications, to officially join the leadership ranks of special events professionals.

ISES is all about pushing the special events industry forward, and we’re pumped to bring GB to the table as an events leader!

GB Show Featured in PLSN!

GrooveBoston’s show at Tufts University last fall was just featured in the November 2009 issue of Production, Lights & Staging News. Yeah, that’s us just above the Def Leppard tour. No big deal.

NACA Northeast – Be The DJ

Happy birthday, NACA! We got you — you guessed it — a dance party. Go ahead, open it!

For 50 years now, the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA) has been the go-to resource for finding college entertainment. Kind of like Van Wilder, Party Liason. As a faithful member organization, we took it upon ourselves to make sure there was a sweet party on the agenda for last weekend’s Northeast regional conference.

But before the face-rocking, it was time to turn the tables— the figurative ones. For our booth in the NACA Marketplace, we decided to put students on the other side of the mix, exposed to the awesome gadgetry that makes the club go BOOM. Add a little green-screen magic, and we’ve got ourselves a Facebook album full of honorary DJs rocking some familiar past events.

But our down-time wouldn’t be spent lounging in the booth on our swanky GB couches. As fate would have it, we needed to make an excursion to pick up a camera cable. No problem, right? We’re right smack in the middle of a major city; we can just head over to Radio Shack. But that would have been too easy.

Crap.

Really Downtown Hartford? Really? After running a quick marathon in the rain — over the river and under the highway— we returned invigorated, with cable, and ready to take back the GB reins. See what we do for you guys?

On Thursday and Friday nights, “hotel room service” meant pizzas and pitchers of soda. On Saturday, though, it was face-rocking time, and Pitbull reclaimed the term with that killer riff that forces your hands into the air. Students hit the closing party ready to rock, and we made the last hour of the conference count. We did cross paths with one group who elected to get some sleep instead, to which Hamma solemnly replied “Well, I hope our face-rocking doesn’t wake you,” as a single tear fell down his cheek.

Thanks to LED fixtures from our friends at ECLPS, we kept our carbon footprint a little smaller than usual (to honor NACA’s “green” theme) without sacrificing intensity. The compact one-hour set meant an aggressive night on the mix, and some extra push-ups to get the sweat going a little faster than usual. In the end, it was one hell of an hour.

And you know what… if our face-rocking woke you, we’re not sorry. Sleeping is for parents and Sundays.

New Face-Rocker: Matt “Hamma” Duhamel

GB would like to welcome Matt “The Hamma” Duhamel to the front lines, with his debut performance as a headlining resident DJ just a week away. Here’s what he looks like in the dark:

No stranger to the GB stage, Hamma has been opening for the past year, and has been known to drop some very cool jams, including lounge mixes of Oasis and Collective Soul, as well as proven favorites like Bell Biv DeVoe’s Poison — mainly to get Ben and me fired up backstage, while we pound energy drinks, do some push-ups and dance like Turk from Scrubs.

Hamma has also been working the Boston club scene, billed as “DJ MD,” or “DJ Matty D” (though with a name that almost contains “hamma” I don’t know why you’d even consider any other). He’s made appearances at Suite, Felt, and Revolution Rock Bar. The winner of the GrooveBoston Golden Hammer Award for Excellence in Party Rocking (GBGHAEPR), Hamma will be heading up the mix on October 30th at Sarah Lawrence College in NY, and future stops along the FaceRockers tour.

GB Rocks Cancer’s Face Off!

As you may have noticed, this blog isn’t about a dance party. Sorry. It’s still cool though. We hope. Ok, ok. We’ll keep it short.

This year GB fielded a team at the Relay For Life of Tufts University. We were pumped to get involved with the American Cancer Society fundraiser to give back to the campus of one of our MVP clients, and to fight back against the biological anti-dance-party: cancer.

Turns out we raised a considerable chunk of change and had an awesome time in the process! A HUGE thanks to everyone who supported us!!
