Talk about living up to a name. Also (and more lengthily) known as the Acton-Boxborough Regional High School Senior Prom 2008 featuring GrooveBoston, SuperProm was absolute INSANITY.

At GB we pretty much live and die by giving cool names to things. Here’s a few other names that could have easily worked for this bad boy:
-RidicuProm
-InsaniProm
-IthinkijustpoopedmyProm (because I was so excited)
Any of those would have worked… but SuperProm really hit the nail on the head with this one. Let me start at the beginning:
When Frank Calore, ABRHS Prom visionary, first called the GB offices, the conversation went something like this:
“GrooveBoston, this is Ben.”
“Hi, This is Frank from ABRHS. I want to build the biggest prom in the history of the universe at a train station.”
“Cooooooooool.”
Ok. So the conversation was simplified a bit for blog purposes, but we got the message loud and clear. After a few months of intense design and planning, 3 trucks rolled up to Union Station in Worcester, MA PACKED with gear. GB Objective: transform the station’s grand hall into a massive dance club.
It took 2 days to load everything in. I should also mention that Union is a functioning train station– people actually had to walk through our build area on their daily commute. Try to imagine the last time you jumped off a train, weary from your long journey, only to find yourself instantly on the center floor of a dance club! KaPOW!
By the time they looked up at the 50′x30′ truss grid full of lights, walked around a stage with two 15′ video screens, and plugged their ears to block out TWELVE dual-18″ subwoofer cabs, the train-goers naturally had some questions… namely, “What the [bunny] is this all for?” Most of them only half-believed us when we answered– a prom.
Even the YouTube trailer for SuperProm confused some people. The only two comments were “wait what??” and “is this serious?” GB’s answer was a definitive “HELL, YES.”
ABRHS… you guys rock. A big shout to Frank and the rest of the prom committee who decided to think outside of the “sit-down dinner and lounge music” box, and got rewarded with a CRAZY party that nobody will be forgetting any time soon. And they think they’re off the hook…. see you in college next year. Muahhhhahahaha.
