This weekend marked GB’s Mobile Club debut at Amherst College for their “Fall Break Bash” featuring DJ Skribble.
As Skribble– recently dubbed #5 on the list of America’s top DJs– wrapped up his sound check, Springer did something that would go down in Amherst history — he challenged Skribble to a battle. The room fell silent, as nobody was sure what was about to go down.
Skribble took it in stride, and responded “In that case, I wish I had my 909 with me,” referencing the DJM-909, Pioneer’s killer hip hop battle mixer. “Well,” Springer scrambled, confident in his ability to think of a higher number, “I got my 910 in the car, so I guess we’ll see what happens.” The crew all burst out laughing, knowing that a DJM-910, although sounding incrementally better than Skrib’s 909, only exists in Springer’s imagination — and even if it were real, there is no way Springer was cruising around with one riding shotgun in his 1994 champagne-beige Nissan Altima.
Was that an extended story about a mediocre-at-best DJ gear joke? You bet your bippy it was. I’m not sorry.
In any case, GB and Skribble proceeded to deliver an INTENSE Fall Break Bash to Amherst, complete with a custom video system– we’re talking live crowd camera, lipstick camera strapped to Skribble’s turntables, and Spring Break style (well Fall Break, i guess) event graphics– all mixed live to the music and pumped out on intimidating 9’x12’ screens on either side of the stage.
As we drove home the next morning, peeping New England’s finest foliage and stopping at farmstands for fresh pies and petting zoos, we reflected on the event and are pumped to head West once more, for another crazy party at Amherst. After all, what happens at Amherst… well, nevermind. None of your business.
